Frequently asked questions
- Are there other dates available ?
Yes, the courses are available throughout the year. I am a working photographer and try and run workshops on any weekend dates that i have available. Please pop over a message if you don’t see a date advertised that is convenient for you. If you would prefer to attend a weekday course, let me know. - Where do the courses take place?
Most of the courses are based in a training classroom in Castlefield in Manchester. This is a greta location and allows a great base for any courses that involve going out and taking photos. We are a quick walk to lot’s of stunning locations around Manchester. - Do I need to pay in full on booking?
This depends on which course you book and how soon it is till the course starts. Most courses allow you to book with a deposit, then the balance is due 1 week before the course commences. Payments are made via Paypal. You do not need a Paylpal account to book on the course, you can follow the link and and just pay via Paypal’s website with a debit or credit card. - How experienced is the teacher?
Very. I have been involved in Photography and retouching for over 27 years. I have taught hundreds of people during my career. This website has only been launched in 2018, to keep it separate from my photography website here. I am a fully qualified Lecturer having decided to go on train the trainer courses. I have the Level 3 Diploma in Education and Training and the Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training. I am a great believer in education and everyday is a schooldays. Especially in Photography there is always something to learn, no matter how experienced a photographer you are. - What happens if it rains?
The photography courses involve being out and about in Manchester. Most of the courses do involve being outside. Good footwear and clothing is needed to suit Manchester weather. There are places that we can go and get shelter, arches, bridges and museums so even if it’s torrential we will be out. Camera bags and equipment ideally needs to be waterproof, weather resistant. If you are unsure let me know and I can advise you. Gaffers tape and bin bags make very affordable weather proof coats for cameras if needed. [at your own risk] - Why should I pick this course?
The courses are all designed and taught by myself. They are fun, informative courses. There are so many ways of learning in this digital age, there are some fantastic online courses. These are all great, but being in a small group of like minded people can really accelerate your learning. Not everyone likes to learn via online courses and having a ‘real’ human to throw questions at and see the results can help most people. - Do I need my own equipment?
Ideally yes. You need a camera that is capable of being controlled manually. ie one that allows you to select the Aperture, Shutetr Speed and ISO. If you re not sure if you camera can do this then please pop over a message with your make and model and I can check for you. I do have a couple of basic Canon DSLR’s that can be borrowed if you need them.
