Who is the course for?

You may be a working professional or amateur photographer who would like to learn how to utilise flash in your photography. You need to be fully conversant with your camera settings and happy with shooting in manual. If you are new to photography then will need to take the level 1, Introductory Photography Course first.

This one day flash course will help you take away the fear of using flash in your photography. The course is aimed at wedding photographers but the principals being taught can be used for portraits, event photography or any genre of photography that you need to introduce flash. We will also briefly run through on camera flash.

The morning will be classroom based, learning how I utilise flash in all of my photography. Starting with the basics and learning how to balance ambient light with flash. the use of modifiers, gels and triggers.

After lunch we will be outside shooting with a model. This will be all off camera flash, starting with a 1 flash setup, using speed lights and larger battery pack studio strobes.

This is an adults only course. [ However, if you have child that would like to learn photography please get in touch and we can arrange a school/youthclub/cubs workshop. ]

The classroom has access for wheel chairs and the course route can be adjusted to take into account any participants with mobility needs. The bulk of the course is delivered in a practical way on the streets of Manchester, so good footwear and sensible clothing will be required. We don’t stop for rain !

What you will learn:

At the end of the course you will have learnt:

  • When to use flash
  • Manual vs TTL
